The main objective of REDDiness is to strengthen the national forest monitoring centers of the Republic of Congo and Gabon in their efforts to implement the REDD+ mechanism through the concrete support of specific technical Remote Sensing (RS) aspects and related capacity building. Fundamental here is the exchange of knowledge and capacities in two directions (EU <-> C-Africa).
Specific objectives to reach are the following:
1/ Identification and prioritization of the current needs in the project working area relating REDD+ monitoring through RS techniques
Please check our work performed in this context outlined in the final WP2 reports.
2/ Assist Gabon and the Republic of Congo in their efforts to implement the REDD+ mechanism in their countries through specific research and development activities as defined in objective 1
More specifically the project has opted to focus on the monitoring of forest degradation, one of the major technical challenge regarding REDD+. The project deliverable
can be checked here.
3/ Improve local and regional capacities on EO and RS techniques in the context of REDD+
Two intensive technical training sessions are/will be held locally in both countries. Click here for online available training material and software.
Associated with these technical training sessions, the project built and improved the technical local expertise through the participation to fieldwork (use of GPS, collection of data and integration in GIS database,…) for the verification and validation process of the cartographic products.
